Info: COMODO SafeSurf Toolbar
« on: May 23, 2008, 08:04:11 AM »

Hi Guys,

What is COMODO SafeSurf?

The Comodo SafeSurf Toolbar protects against data theft, computer crashes and system damage by preventing most types of Buffer Overflow attacks. This type of attack occurs when a malicious program or script deliberately sends more data to a target applications memory buffer than the buffer can handle - which can be exploited to create a back door to the system though which a hacker can gain access. Comodo developed the SafeSurf Toolbar explicitly to protect end-users from these kinds of attacks whilst they browse the Internet. After installation, the program will monitor and protect the memory space of all applications that are running on your system and immediately block any buffer overflow attacks. Apart from providing another essential layer of protection, the toolbar also provides one-click access to news, search, shopping; a built in pop-up blocker; is compatible with all major browsers

ALSO... Please read our CEO's explanation on installing the SafeSurf Toolbar (Which is powered by COMODO Memory Firewall Technology)

Users can opt out during installation!

Toolbar is ONLY available with a fresh CFP installation. If you are updating from previous version you do NOT get the toolbar

We would never force anything on our users!

This is just giving our users a choice in their search engine choice and making Comodo some money. It is totally optional at installation. The reason why we chose ask.com as a provider is because they have a good user experience, eg: type New Jersey as a keyword and see the results.. Of course Google is a great search engine but doesn't hurt to have an alternative search engine that you can check and a lot of people have google toolbar anyway. Also, we are building our own version of a toolbar that will have UserTrust built in along with Search Engine Overlays (bit like site advisor) and this is the starting point of it. Of course as always we will always try to give our users a choice!

thank you

Melih

PS:the toolbar is NOT available to anyone just updating. Its only available if you are installing CFP fresh (eg: no updating from older versions). This might cause confusion to some people thinking that they will get the toolbar yet they are not getting the opt out during that update process. Again: you don't get the toolbar during update... only with a fresh install!

Yes! Comodo SafeSurf does support all browsers.

Hi Guys,

SafeSurf supports all the browsers. Dont worry. It may not install the toolbar to the browser window(search bar part of the safesurf works for IE, FF etc) but it will still protect the browsers like safari, opera or any other unknown one etc against BO attacks.

Egemen

So, Yes... A Complete reinstall is required for this feature to take effect! Browser compatible list will be updated as time and development goes on.

We do understand users concern of Toolbars, etc. This is to help COMODO gain some money, After all, This is FREE. But this does provide Buffer Overflow protection where you need it the most... IN YOUR BROWSER.

COMODO Memory Firewall work is still under development and more work needs to be done. The built in SurfSafe Toolbar ONLY protects BO'S in Browser, IT DOS NOT PROTECT AGAINST APPLICATIONS like the stand-a-lone COMODO Memory Firewall.

Uninstalling

If for whatever reason SurfSafe Toolbar isn't for you, You can safely uninstall it in Add/Remove programs. But please TRY to keep it! You will maintain protection & help support COMODO for the free products they offer! All money go towards Development.

NOTE: This "Toolbar" is being detected by various Anti-virus software as Adware/Malware *THIS IS A FALSE POSTIVE!!!*, There is NO Adware, Spyware etc in this Toolbar WHAT SO EVER. If you are having problems installing the Toolbar, turn off your AV if this is the case.

If you have any question's or concern's, Please don't hesitate to PM me.

Thanks,

Josh
